Long Beach: Beach Streets Block Party Kicks July 19
One of Long Beach's favorite summer traditions is back—and this year it's bringing the world's biggest soccer celebration along for the ride.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 19, Beach Streets will once again close miles of Long Beach’s streets to cars and open them to bikes, walkers, skaters and families for an afternoon of fun, food and championship soccer.
One might say Long Beach’s streets are becoming a playing field for the day.
The route is the longest in Beach Streets history, stretching through downtown and along the shoreline to nearby neighborhoods. Participants can roll along Pine Avenue from 1st to 9th streets, head east on Broadway to Redondo Avenue, loop down Cherry Avenue to 4th Street and continue along 4th Street to Junipero Avenue. Whether you're on two wheels, two feet or pushing a stroller, the day is designed for exploring at your own pace.
Bixby Park (130 Cherry Ave.) will be the heart of the action with the "Kickin' It Hub," where fans can cheer on the final teams in the tournament on a giant screen while enjoying a full lineup of family-friendly fun. A welcome ceremony will take place at the park at 11:30 a.m. Meanwhile, kids can burn off energy in the soccer-themed kids' zone with inflatables and free face painting, while the family can enjoy food trucks, a beer garden and DJs keeping the celebration going before and after the final whistle.
Entertainment hubs will feature live music, performances, activities and local vendors. The Downtown Entertainment Zone, North Pine Hub and East Village Hub will keep Downtown buzzing, while 4th Street will host a free watch party inside the The Art Theatre (2025 E. 4th St.), plus live entertainment, children's activities and complimentary bike valet.
Local businesses throughout the Beach Streets area will be getting in on the action with special activities, information booths and promotions, making it easy to grab a bite and do a little shopping.
Since launching in 2015, Beach Streets has rolled through neighborhoods across Long Beach, encouraging residents to swap four wheels for two—or none at all—for fresh air, exercise and community connection. The events highlight active transportation while giving neighbors a chance to experience familiar streets from a whole new perspective.
With soccer fever meeting open streets, this summer's event promises a winning combination.
