Long Beach Fire Corps Seeks Young Interns
Considering a career with the Long Beach Fire Department? Here’s your chance to get a foot in the door.
Applications are being accepted now for the third cohort of the Long Beach Fire Corps Program, a seven-month paid internship that gives people ages 18 to 30 hands-on experience working behind-the-scenes of a fire department.
Participants earn $22 per hour for up to 450 hours while taking part in professional workshops and training. The program includes opportunities to earn a CPR certification and complete Community Emergency Response Team training, along with other professional development.
Interns work with the Fire Prevention Bureau’s Community Services Division, helping with communications, community outreach and special events, including the Spark of Love Toy Drive and Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
The program is designed to provide a closer look at the many different jobs and skills that go into running a modern fire department — not just the firefighters responding to emergencies.
The first two Fire Corps cohorts included 33 participants, eight of whom went on to land jobs with the Long Beach Fire Department after completing the program.
For those who want to learn more before applying, the City will host a virtual information session from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Priority is given to local applicants.
Applications are open through Monday, Oct. 26.
