The City of Long Beach recently celebrated the grand reopening of Fire Station 14, marking the completion of a renovation project aimed at modernizing the City’s emergency response infrastructure.

The greatly renovated facility, located at 5200 E. Elliot St., was unveiled during a community celebration in March, highlighting important upgrades focused on operational efficiency and firefighter wellbeing, modernizing critical aspects of the station that had long needed improvement.

City officials, including Mayor Rex Richardson, Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan, and Fire Chief Dennis Buchanan, gathered with local stakeholders and community members for a ceremony that highlighted the importance of investing in critical public safety infrastructure.

The renovation is part of the City’s broader Elevate ‘28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, underscoring the community’s commitment to strengthening essential public safety services in part in preparation for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.

Among the significant upgrades to the station are newly expanded and improved living and sleeping quarters for firefighters, designed to create a safer and more inclusive working environment. The renovations addressed long standing limitations by adding multiple restrooms, including male, female and gender-neutral facilities, where previously only one male and one gender-neutral restroom were available. These changes reflect the department’s efforts to accommodate the evolving needs of its workforce and foster a more equitable workplace.

Operational improvements to the station include expanded storage areas for fire fighting equipment, upgraded fire suppression systems and enhanced safety features throughout the facility. The station is now equipped with state-of-the-art technology and systems aimed at improving emergency response times.

Community members attending the reopening were offered guided tours of the updated station, where they were able to see firsthand the new facilities, updated equipment and technology enhancements.

The renovation of Fire Station 14 is just one of several infrastructure projects underway as part of the City’s broader plan to modernize public safety facilities. These efforts are designed not only to improve emergency response but also to ensure the long-term resilience and safety of Long Beach’s neighborhoods for years to come.
