The City of Long Beach is once again demonstrating its commitment to empowering young professionals, just in time for the summer months ahead.

Youth from across the city came together on June 13 to learn all about summer internship and employment opportunities, job training and more at Long Beach Workforce Innovation Network (LBWIN) Youth Career Services Center’s summer kickoff event.

Hosted by the City’s Economic Development Department, more than 350 Long Beach youth showed up to explore various career paths, gain practical insights and connect directly with potential employers and mentors from 30 participating agencies, including City departments and nonprofit and community organizations. The resource fair also offered case management, mental health support and other valuable resources for youth, blended with a mix of creative and engaging activities, a photo booth, music, food and more.

The afternoon event left participants inspired and better equipped to take the next steps in their career journeys.

Youth-focused career readiness events like this reflect the City’s ongoing dedication to equipping the next generation with the tools and resources they need to succeed in the workforce and is one of many activations taking place over the summer months to foster positive youth development as part of the City’s Summer of Opportunity initiative.

The LBWIN Youth Career Services Center offers a wide range of internship and employment preparation programs to help young people enter the workforce and improve their career readiness. These programs span diverse sectors, including public service, aerospace and the criminal justice system.

The City is also calling upon local businesses and nonprofits to support Long Beach youth through jobs, mentorship and training—all at no cost to their business—by partnering with its work experience programs for young people. Local businesses interested in becoming a designated worksite for youth can submit the online Worksite Interest Form.
