The Long Beach Police Department recently launched a new Crime Dashboard designed to give residents easier access to timely crime statistics citywide.

The digital tool — meant to increase transparency for residents looking for clearer insight into crime happening in their neighborhoods — replaces monthly reports that have long been posted online in PDF format. It presents the same information in a more modern and intuitive way, offering interactive charts, maps and filters.

Updated daily with a 21-day delay to ensure accuracy, the dashboard provides a continually refreshed look at illegal activity in Long Beach. It is organized into four major areas: City Overview, Crime Trends, Beat Explorer and Extract Page. Together, these features offer residents a detailed look at crime patterns.

City Overview serves as a starting point for users who want a broad understanding of local trends. Residents can filter information by date and review totals for crimes against persons, property and society. Each category includes year-over-year comparisons, percentage changes and daily averages. There’s also a table outlining offense types and a monthly trend chart for deeper analysis.

Those looking for more specific insights can turn to the Crime Trends section, which allows filters by time period, division and offense type. It highlights the most common offenses, shows how crimes are distributed across different beats and divisions, and displays when crimes most often occur based on time of day and day of the week.

For residents interested in understanding crime within their immediate neighborhood, the Beat Explorer provides a map illustrating crime density across patrol beats to show how activities and patterns vary block by block.

The Extract Page is geared toward users who want to conduct their own analyses. With customizable filters and downloadable data options, it enables more advanced examination while maintaining safeguards that protect sensitive information.

To help residents get started, the department has created a video tutorial that walks users through each feature. Community members can learn more and explore the tool by visiting the Crime Dashboard webpage.
