Notebooks? Got ‘em. Pencils? Packed. Superpowers? Just add one heroic shot.
Long Beach families are invited to Superheroes Shield Up for School, a free back-to-school vaccination and resource fair happening from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, at the Main Health Facility (2525 Grand Ave.).
This action-packed event, hosted by the City’s Department of Health and Human Services, includes superhero-themed games, food, giveaways, bubbles and a photo booth ready to capture the best crime-fighting poses.

It’s an epic chance for families to put on their costumes and capes for a serious mission: ensuring every child gets their essential, school-required vaccinations. Life-saving shots will be available for students entering transitional kindergarten, kindergarten and seventh grade as well as anyone who is uninsured or underinsured.
City leaders say events like this are a powerful way to keep families healthy. Immunizations remain one of the strongest defenses against preventable diseases, and getting protected before the school bell rings helps kids stay in the classroom.
Beyond vaccines, community organizations will be on hand at the event with resources on early childhood education, developmental screenings, mental health services, swim safety and more. Plus, the City’s Sensory Area For Everyone (SAFE) vehicle will offer a calming and inclusive space for attendees with sensory needs.
Vaccine appointments are not required but are available in both English and Spanish via MyTurn.
