Long Beach Hosts Community Meeting for Anaheim Street Corridor Improvement Project

The City of Long Beach Department of Public Works held a public meeting for community members to learn more about the upcoming Anaheim Street Corridor Improvement Project.
Anaheim Street is one of Long Beach’s most heavily traveled east-west corridors, serving neighborhoods, commercial districts, schools and transit routes. This project will create a safer and more accessible corridor while rehabilitating approximately four miles of pavement along Anaheim Street from the Los Angeles River to Pacific Coast Highway.
Originally extending from the Los Angeles River to Termino Avenue, the project was expanded to include roadway rehabilitation east to Pacific Coast Highway that will restore pavement conditions throughout the corridor and minimize future construction disruptions.
Portions of Anaheim Street are identified on the City’s High Injury Network, which highlights streets with a history of serious traffic collisions. Planned improvements include traffic signal upgrades at 20 locations, ADA accessibility improvements, 13 new crosswalks and enhancements to 59 existing crosswalks to improve visibility and safety.
Other improvements include pavement rehabilitation, drought-tolerant landscaping and transit access improvements. Guided by the Pavement Management Plan (PMP) and the Safe Streets Long Beach Action Plan, the project advances the City’s commitment to a safer, more accessible and equitable multimodal street network while supporting its Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.
Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2027 and be completed in early 2028, barring weather delays and other unforeseen circumstances.
The project is part of the Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a historic initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access and streets. More information about the City’s infrastructure investments is available at lbelevate28.com.
