Long Beach Launches Expanded Health and Human Services Fund to Support Community Wellness
The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) has launched an expanded Health and Human Services Fund (HHS Fund)—a community-centered effort designed to strengthen public health services and provide direct support to residents and local nonprofits across Long Beach.
The enhanced fund now includes a new mini grant program, creating additional ways for community members to invest in health, wellness and equity citywide. Through donations, the HHS Fund helps residents access critical resources, supports professional development for Health Department staff and provides flexible funding to nonprofit partners delivering vital health and human services.
Managed by the Long Beach Community Foundation, the HHS Fund accepts tax-deductible donations to support three key initiatives:
- Direct Client Support: Grants of up to $1,000 to help residents meet urgent needs, such as nutritious food, transportation to medical appointments and other essential services.
- Workforce Enhancements: Support of up to $1,000 for Health Department staff to access tools, materials and professional development when other funding sources are unavailable, strengthening their ability to respond to emerging community needs.
- Mini Grants for Nonprofits: Grants of up to $5,000 for local nonprofit organizations to support staff wellness, professional development and vital resources.
To build awareness and encourage community participation, the Health Department is also introducing Together for a Healthier Long Beach, a new marketing campaign highlighting real stories from residents and organizations supported by the department. These stories will be shared on social media and the Health Department’s website.
Together, these initiatives provide community support that helps remove barriers, strengthens services and builds a healthier Long Beach for all.
Community members can learn more and make a donation at longbeach.gov/HHSFund. Residents are also encouraged to support the campaign by sharing stories and messages on social media.
