Long Beach Municipal Band Summer Concert Series Returns June 23
The Long Beach Municipal Band is making their awaited annual return for the 117 season of their summer concert series. The nation’s longest standing city-funded municipal band will be performing at five Long Beach parks beginning Tuesday, June 23 through Friday, July 31 with the theme “Picnics and Pops.”
All concerts will begin at 6:30 p.m. at no cost to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, picnic-style meals and their favorite dance partner to enjoy a beautiful summer evening. The performance schedule for each park is listed below:

The summer concert series also includes weekly performance themes to provide a fun variety of music and entertainment for the community.
Week 1 (June 23-June 26): “City Lights, Jazz Nights”
For the opening week of their 117 season, the band will be joined by Crystal Lewis for soulful blues and Dixieland jazz. Blending laid-back and upbeat numbers, it’ll be a captivating week of performances settling back into the groove of summer jazz nights.
Week 2 (June 30-July 3): “America the Beautiful: A Musical Tribute”
As the nation celebrates its 250 anniversary of independence, performances for this week will honor timeless classics like “America the Beautiful” and “Stars and Stripes Forever”. Tawanda Suessbrich-Joaquim will accompany the performances with rich vocals to honor the country’s history and people.
Week 3 (July 7-10): “The Music Behind the Magic”
This week is fans of all ages to celebrate timeless storytelling through the ballads and upbeat tunes that comprise the music of Disney. Crooner Mark Kopitzke will support the band to add that touch of magic and charm to the performances.
Week 4 (July 14-17): “Songs for the One You Love”
Be sure to bring that someone special with you as this week will be dedicated to classic love songs and ballads ranging from Nat King Cole to Elvis Presley. Jazz Singer Meloney Collins will help bring that soulful, heartfelt sound that this week will promise.
Week 5 (July 21-24): “John Williams in Concert: A Legacy of Cinema”
Enjoy the scores of composer John Williams who has shaped the sounds of modern cinema that can be recognized across generations. R&B singer and songwriter Scott People will mark his debut with the Studio Band this week.
Week 6 (July 28-31): “Legends of Vinyl: The Bands That Defined an Era”
The band will close out with a high-energy week bringing back pop and rock hits of the 1960s and 70s. Fan favorite singer Nicole Kubis will join the band to bring the spirit of an unforgettable era.
