Long Beach Opens Applications for Fifth Year of Youth Advisory Council

Passionate about shaping the future of City policies and programs for young people in Long Beach? The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a group of aspiring young leaders to join the Office of Youth Development’s Youth Advisory Council.
Established in 2022, the Youth Advisory Council provides young people in Long Beach with civic engagement and leadership opportunities through collaboration with City departments, the Mayor’s Office and other community organizations. From helping implement the Youth and Emerging Adults Strategic Plan to helping allocate Measure US Youth Fund investments, the Youth Advisory Council has become a vital group, ensuring youth representation in City initiatives.
To be eligible for the Youth Advisory Council, applicants must:
- Live in Long Beach
- Be between 16 to 26 years old by Sept. 1, 2026
- Be available to attend two-hour meetings twice a month at locations within the City
Over their one-year term, members of the Youth Advisory Council receive a $50 stipend for each meeting they attend, up to $1,100. Members also receive coaching and leadership opportunities from City Staff throughout their term.
Ready to help shape the future of Long Beach’s new generation? Applications are open now through August 7, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. through the online portal. Youth interested in applying without internet access may submit their application during regular business hours at:
- Ronald R. Arias Health Equity Center (6335 Myrtle Ave.)
- Any Long Beach Public Library location
- Any Parks, Recreation and Marine Teen Center location
