More Long Beach pups will soon be going from sidewalks to sandy paws as the City seeks to gather input from community members on its second off-leash dog beach.

On Wednesday, Feb.11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the City of Long Beach will be hosting a Zoom meeting to provide an overview of the project and give residents the opportunity to provide their feedback on the new Junipero Dog Beach.

After the success of Rosie’s Dog Beach in Belmont Shore, the City’s first off leash dog beach, residents expressed a need for more recreational pet spaces in different parts of the city. The proposed plans for the new dog beach were created with safety and accessibility in mind, while also ensuring water quality, sand maintenance and environmental protection.

The proposed area for this off-leash dog zone is just east of the new Junipero Beach Sports Court, between Junipero Avenue and 1st Place. This space is expected span about four acres of land along the Downtown shoreline. The location was chosen because it has pedestrian access, convenient parking areas and other compatible recreational areas nearby.

After feedback from the Long Beach community, the project will go to the California Coastal Commission for a coastal development permit.

If you’re interested in attending the virtual meeting, you can register and request interpretation services by visiting lbcity.info/juniperodogbeach.
