Long Beach’s Free Water Safety Day Makes a Splash
Long Beach is ready to make a splash with its annual Water Safety Day on Saturday, May 16, turning three local pools into hubs for learning life-saving skills.
Hosted by the Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine in partnership with the Long Beach Fire Department Marine Safety Division, this free event runs from noon to 2 p.m., with attendees invited to swim until 3 p.m., at Belmont Plaza Pool (4320 Olympic Plaza), Martin Luther King Jr. Park Pool (1910 Lemon Ave.) and Silverado Park Pool (1540 W. 32nd St.).
Designed for everyone from toe-dippers to deep-end pros, Water Safety Day is all about building confidence in and around the water. Expect a wave of interactive stations covering everything from survival floating and swim evaluations to proper lifejacket fitting and water rescue basics. There will be hands-on CPR demos, tips on being a sharp-eyed “water watcher,” and plenty of guidance on sun safety.
Following the safety demonstrations, participants will be invited to enjoy a free recreational swim from 1 to 3 p.m. to put their new skills to the test.
Planning to dive in? Be sure to bring a swimsuit, towel and sun protection. While the event is free, registration is required through the LB Rec Connect system. Same-day, in-person sign-ups also will be available at each location.
