Long Beach Unveils Design for Cambodia Town Grand Entrance
The City of Long Beach is taking an exciting step toward celebrating one of its most vibrant cultural districts with the unveiling of the Cambodia Town Grand Entrance design—a future landmark that will honor the community’s rich history and lasting contributions.
The design was officially revealed on April 4, during the annual Cambodia Town Parade and Culture Festival, where City leaders and community members gathered to celebrate this milestone moment.
Located along Anaheim Street between Atlantic and Junipero Avenues, Cambodia Town is home to the largest Cambodian community in the United States. The district serves as a cultural hub, filled with Khmer-owned businesses, and is a destination for Cambodian art, music, cuisine and traditions.
The Cambodia Town Grand Entrance reflects years of collaboration between the City and the community it represents. Throughout the design process, local voices played a central role in shaping a concept that authentically honors Cambodian culture and identity.
Early concepts were guided by the Cambodia Town Advisory Group, whose members provided valuable insight into cultural symbolism and meaningful design elements. The broader community also had the opportunity to weigh in, with feedback collected both in person at the 2025 Cambodia Town Parade and Culture Festival and through a multilingual online survey offered in English, Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog.
In total, more than 1,000 responses were received, with approximately 69% of participants selecting the concept that has now been unveiled—demonstrating strong community support for the final design.
The Cambodia Town Grand Entrance is part of a broader effort to enhance neighborhoods across Long Beach through the City’s Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan. The project will join other recent and planned improvements led by the Department of Public Works, including upgrades to local libraries, parks and community facilities.
Construction of the Cambodia Town Grand Entrance is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2027, pending full funding and completion of the bid and award process. While a majority of funding has already been secured, the City continues to explore additional funding opportunities.
To further support the project, the Cambodia Town Advisory Group is launching a fundraising effort to enhance the design with additional features, including a perforated screen element surrounding the gateway sign.
Once complete, the grand entrance will serve as a welcoming symbol of Cambodia Town—honoring its past, celebrating its present and standing as a lasting tribute for future generations.
