Celebrating Earth Month in Long Beach with Community Events

Spring is in the air and in April, that means it’s time to celebrate our planet.

The City of Long Beach is marking Earth Month with a full lineup of free, family-friendly events, workshops and volunteer opportunities designed to inspire people to get outside and enjoy nature. From hands-on cleanups to creative activities and nature-based experiences, there’s something for everyone to enjoy while supporting a more sustainable community.

To make it easy to join the fun, the City has released an Earth Month Calendar packed with activities happening all month long—highlighting everything from protecting local wildlife to reducing waste and caring for shared spaces.

Residents can take part in a wide range of events across the city, including:

Brooms Across West Long Beach

Saturday, April 11, 9 a.m. to noon

Roll up your sleeves and help beautify West Long Beach at this community cleanup effort, with volunteers meeting at Pacific Coast Highway and San Gabriel Avenue. RSVP for the event.

Earth Month Recycling Drives

Saturdays, April 11 & April 25,10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Turn recyclables into a force for good by donating eligible CRV items at El Dorado Nature Center or Cal Rec Community Center at McBride Park. Proceeds will support local food distribution through Food Finders.

Earth Day Crafternoon

Wednesday, April 15, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Young creators can enjoy an afternoon of eco-themed stories and crafts at the El Dorado Neighborhood Library.

Westside Clean & Green

Saturday, April 18, 9 a.m. to noon

Join neighbors at Cabrillo High School for a rewarding morning of community cleanup and beautification. RSVP to volunteer.

Earth Day Coastal Cleanup

Saturday, April 18, 10 a.m. to noon

Help protect Long Beach’s coastline by pitching in for a cleanup near the Belmont Pier.

Earth Day Celebrations & Art Events

Wednesday, April 22

Celebrate Earth Day with activities across the city, including a sustainability-focused event at Recreation Park and a creative Art Jam for teens at the Michelle Obama Library. Register for the event online.

Earth Day at City Hall

Thursday, April 23, noon to 1 p.m.

Stop by Long Beach City Hall to learn simple, practical ways to adopt more sustainable habits and support the City’s Climate Action Plan.

City Nature Challenge

Saturday, April 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Explore local trails and help document wildlife at Willow Springs Park as part of this global community science event. Learn more and register for this event.

Long Beach Fixit Clinic

Saturday, April 25, noon to 3 p.m.

Give broken household items a second life with help from volunteer repair experts. Learn more about the program.
