No-Cost Preschool Opens in West Long Beach

West Long Beach families have a new option for early childhood education with the opening of a no-cost preschool at the West Facilities Center.
Located at 2125 Santa Fe Ave., the school is operated by Un Mundo de Amigos and can accommodate about 50 children ages 2 to 5. The program offers full- and partial-day instruction in both English and Spanish, giving young children an opportunity to learn in a bilingual environment at no cost to their families.
The preschool officially celebrated its completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 15 and will begin enrolling students soon. The newly renovated space features dedicated classrooms, updated learning materials and a new play structure.
The addition is especially welcome in West Long Beach, where existing licensed childcare providers have the capacity to serve fewer than 30% of local demand, according to City officials. The preschool is part of the City's 10-year Westside Promise Initiative, which aims to address longstanding challenges in the community.
The West Facilities Center is also home to a TCC Family Health clinic and a Women, Infants and Children (WIC) office, giving families convenient access to additional health and support services in one location.
The project is funded through the Long Beach Recovery Act, with additional support from Measure A and a $1.8 million commitment from Un Mundo de Amigos Preschool. Un Mundo de Amigos’ commitment has been secured through multiple sources, including grants from the W.M. Keck Foundation and The Rudolph J. and Daphne A. Munzer Foundation, as well as funds received from the state.
