Repair, Reuse and Learn at Long Beach’s Free Fixit Clinics
Roll up your sleeves and give that broken household item a second chance at the City of Long Beach’s upcoming Fixit Clinics. Hosted in partnership with community organizations, these free events connect residents with skilled volunteer coaches who can help troubleshoot, tinker and repair everyday items.
The first Long Beach Fixit Clinic of 2026 will take place Saturday, April 25, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library (5870 Atlantic Ave.). During the clinic, residents will work side-by-side with volunteer coaches who share their tools, know-how and problem-solving skills to help bring items back to life.
Even if an item can’t be fully repaired, participants often leave with a better understanding of how it works — and a few new repair tricks they can use next time something breaks.
Residents may bring one item to repair, with the option to join a waitlist for additional items if space allows. Common repair items include electronics, bicycles, small appliances, clothing, toys and jewelry. Certain items cannot be accepted, including smart TVs, cellphones, tablets, printers, electronic screens, computer software, Mac or Apple products and large appliances.
The clinic is open to all ages, though minors must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and be part of the repair process alongside the Fixit coaches. Attendees should also bring any replacement parts their item may require.
More Fixit Clinic dates will be announced in the future.
The program supports the City’s waste-reduction and climate goals outlined in the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. So far, Long Beach Fixit Clinics have kept more than 3,170 pounds of household items out of local landfills. In 2025 alone, 301 residents participated and helped repair 223 items.
Residents interested in attending register at visit lbcity.info/fixitclinics. Preregistration helps volunteers prepare and increases the chances that your item can be repaired. Clinics are popular and may fill up quickly, so early sign-ups are encouraged.
