Everyone’s Coast Calls on Long Beach to Dive Into Community Planning
Long Beach is casting a wide net for community input through a public survey and Leadership Academy as part of Everyone’s Coast, a new citywide planning effort focused on improving access to the shoreline.
Led by the Community Development Department, Everyone’s Coast is designed to update zoning regulations to better align with Long Beach’s General Plan while making it easier for more locals to enjoy the coastal area, not just those who already have a beachfront view—because the coast belongs to everyone.
The project zeroes in on two study areas:
- Sub-Area One covers coastal neighborhoods between Alamitos Avenue and Naples Island, south of Broadway. This area will be rezoned in a way that helps guide how the community grows near the water.
- Sub-Area Two focuses on Central Long Beach neighborhoods like Cambodia Town and the Zaferia. Bounded by Pacific Coast Highway, Magnolia Avenue, 10th Street and Ximeno Avenue, the area will be the focus of mobility analyses aimed at improving transportation options and making trips to the beach a breeze.
People who live and work in the study areas are encouraged to take a short community survey. As a little extra incentive, participants can enter to win a $50 gift card. Survey teams will also be popping up in neighborhoods to gather feedback and hear local stories.
For those who want to go beyond the survey and really get their feet wet, Everyone’s Coast is offering a six-week Leadership Academy for participants to learn how planning and zoning decisions are made, build skills to share their experiences with City leaders, and connect with neighbors across Central and Coastal Long Beach.
More details about the Leadership Academy will be announced soon. In the meantime, residents can learn more and stay up to date by visiting longbeach.gov/everyonescoast.
