City of Long Beach Unveils New Courtyard at Michelle Obama Library
Libraries bring people together to learn, connect and grow — and now the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library offers a new outdoor space designed to do just that. The City of Long Beach invites the community to celebrate the official unveiling of the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library Courtyard on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The celebration will begin with remarks from City representatives and a ceremonial ribbon cutting, followed by guided tours of the new courtyard. Attendees can explore highlights like a stage area for performances and events, shaded seating, native plant landscaping and a StoryWalk featuring pages from children’s books displayed along a pathway. Light refreshments will be provided.
The courtyard redesign was guided by community input and reflects a shared vision for a welcoming, inclusive and accessible outdoor space where residents can gather, read or simply enjoy the outdoors.
All community members, library patrons and neighbors are invited to attend this free event. For those who can’t join in person, a virtual tour will be available on the Long Beach Public Library website following the ceremony.
The Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library Courtyard renovation was made possible through the support and collaboration of several community partners, including the Long Beach Conservation Corps, the Long Beach Public Library Foundation, the Port of Long Beach, and the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library.
