Long Beach Airport’s Annual Festival of Flight Lands Saturday, Oct. 25
Stow your tray tables and fasten your seatbelts—Long Beach Airport’s annual Festival of Flight is coming in for a landing Saturday, Oct. 25.
The free, family-friendly event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the west end of the airfield at 3590 East Wardlow Road, where an estimated 15,000 aviation fans will taxi into position for a day of sky-high excitement.
This year’s Festival of Flight attractions include static aircraft displays, children’s activities, food and beer trucks, and performances by AbSOULute, DJ Dennis and the Satin Dollz.
The lineup of aircraft is expected to include the C-53 “D-Day Doll,” which participated in the D-Day invasion and Operation Market Garden in Holland; a KC-46 Pegasus, an air-to-air military refueling aircraft; and the VX-31 Search and Rescue “Dust Devils,” a U.S. Navy helicopter crew that rushes into action supporting downed aircraft, lost hikers or missing persons on land or sea. The Condor Squadron flying the AT-6 Texan also is expected to conduct two flyovers.
Festival of Flight has been a Long Beach tradition since 2013, when it launched to celebrate LGB’s 90th anniversary. The aviation-themed event continues to showcase California’s oldest municipal-owned airport, which marked its 100th anniversary in 2023.
Free parking is available at East Wardlow Road and Globemaster Way starting at 8 a.m., plus overflow parking and shuttle service will be offered from the Long Beach Airport Business Park (4901 Airport Plaza Drive). There’s also a free bike valet.
Visitors are encouraged to travel light and prepare for all weather, as the event goes on rain or shine. Pets will have to stay grounded, though service animals are welcome aboard. Coolers, knives and sharp instruments will not be allowed. Bags will be subject to search.
