Long Beach is turning up the heat on career opportunities.

The Economic Development Department, in partnership with the Long Beach Fire Department, is accepting applications for the second round of the City’s Fire Corps program—designed for young adults ready to ignite their careers in public service.

This seven-month paid opportunity gives young adults ages 18 to 30 the chance to work alongside firefighters and experience what it takes to serve the community. Participants engage in hands-on projects, special events and receive CPR and emergency response training—all while earning $22 an hour for up to 400 hours.

Participants also work within the Fire Prevention Bureau’s Community Services Division, supporting community events such as the Spark of Love Toy Drive and the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The program is coordinated through the Long Beach Workforce Innovation Network Youth Career Services Center. Of the first cohort’s 10 participants, one has already been hired by the Fire Department—a testament to the program’s potential.

Applications are open now through Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, and priority will be given to Long Beach residents.
