Kids don’t come with an instruction manual.
Fortunately, the Department of Health and Human Services is hosting free workshops at Long Beach Public Library branches to help answer big questions about raising little ones.
Parents and caregivers are invited to take part in programming designed to help navigate early childhood, specifically for infants and children up to age 8. Topics range from encouraging positive behavior to supporting healthy social and emotional development, all with the goal of giving kids the best possible start in life.
There’s a special focus on early childhood mental health, special education and early start intervention for families experiencing developmental concerns about a child.
Plus, the series is connected to Long Beach Public Library’s Dive into Learning program, which promotes early education for children up to age 5 through reading incentives, school readiness activities and parent education.
The workshop schedule is as follows:
- Guiding Positive Behaviors – 2 p.m., Aug. 16, Mark Twain Neighborhood Library (1401 E. Anaheim St.)
- Understanding Social Interactions & Behaviors – noon, Sept. 10, Burnett Neighborhood Library (560 E. Hill St.)
- Understanding Harbor Regional Center – 11 a.m., Sept. 13, Mark Twain Neighborhood Library (1401 E. Anaheim St.)
- Supporting Healthy Social & Emotional Development – 11 a.m., Oct. 3, Brewitt Neighborhood Library (4036 E. Anaheim St.)
No registration is needed, and families can drop in for any or all sessions.
