Say Boo 2 Flu at the City’s Free October Flu Vaccination Clinics
Embrace the Halloween spirit and say “Boo 2 Flu” at the City's upcoming free flu vaccination clinics.
The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services is working to keep our community safe this flu season by offering free flu vaccines at the City’s Boo 2 Flu event Thursday, Oct. 23 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Doris Topsy-Elvord Community Center at Houghton Park. Attendees of all ages are encouraged to come in costume and scare away the flu season with this year’s flu vaccine.
A dedicated hour from 2 to 3 p.m. is reserved for older adults aged 60 years and over.
Several other free vaccination events will be offered at community clinics across the city to make it easier for our community members to get vaccinated:
- Friday, Oct. 10, 3:30 to 6 p.m., MacArthur Park Theater Center (1321 E. Anaheim St.)
- Tuesday, Oct. 14, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., El Dorado Park West Teen Center (2800 N Studebaker Rd.)
- Wednesday, Oct. 15, 3:30 to 6 p.m., Bixby Park (130 Cherry Ave.)
- Thursday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Long Beach Senior Center, Social Hall (1150 E. 4th St.)
- Monday, Oct. 20, 2 to 6 p.m., McBride Park Community Center, Social Hall (1550 Martin Luther King Jr Ave.)
- Tuesday, Oct. 28, 3:30 to 6 p.m., Admiral Kidd Park (2125 Santa Fe Ave.)
Respiratory virus season typically runs from mid-fall through mid-spring, making October a great time to get vaccinated before the season ramps up. The Health Department strongly recommends annual flu vaccinations for everyone aged six months and older, especially those with health conditions that may increase their risk of serious complications.
Although the vaccine doesn’t prevent all flu infections, it can significantly reduce the severity of illness while decreasing risk of hospitalization and death.
Stop by one of the City’s vaccination events this month to protect yourself, your loved ones and your community this flu season.
