Bay Shore Neighborhood Library to Temporarily Close for ADA Improvements
Long Beach Public Library’s Bay Shore Neighborhood Library (195 Bay Shore Ave.) is closed temporarily to allow for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements to the library’s restrooms.
This project will renovate the library’s existing restroom facilities to create fully accessible, all-gender facilities; relocate the electrical panel, as well as modify hallway and office walls. The library’s renovation will also upgrade lighting and plumbing fixtures, replace interior finishes and install a new drinking fountain. The closure is expected to last until early 2027 when construction is complete.
While the library is closed, there will still be access to select library services, including:
- To-Go Service: Afternoon pickup service will be available for library materials.
- Weekly Story Times: Story times will continue to provide opportunities for children and families to stay connected with the library at off-site locations. For more information about locations, dates, and times, click here.
During Bay Shore Neighborhood Library’s temporary closure, community members are welcome to visit nearby neighborhood libraries:
- Alamitos Neighborhood Library (1836 E. 3rd St.)
- Brewitt Neighborhood Library (4036 E. Anaheim St.)
- Los Altos Neighborhood Library (5614 E. Britton Dr.)
The renovation for ADA improvements will create a more accessible, inclusive and functional space for library visitors and staff. The project is funded by Measure A, a Long Beach ballot initiative approved by voters in 2016 as a 10-year sales tax to support public infrastructure and public safety services. It is also part of the Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a historic initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access, and streets.
