Come fish for fun at Long Beach’s Annual Youth Fishing Derby, taking place Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at El Dorado East Regional Park (7550 E. Spring St.).

Participants 18 and under will have the chance to learn how to fish from experts, win raffle prizes and reel in the excitement of fishing. This free event is a fun opportunity to explore the outdoors and the joy of fishing with friendly competition.

Fishing poles and tackle will be provided; participants are also welcome to bring their own. Onsite registration begins at 8 a.m. and the free raffle will begin at 1 p.m. Anyone over the age of 16 is required to present a valid California State Fishing License to participate. Vehicle entry to El Dorado East Regional Park will be waived for event participants.

The Youth Fishing Derby is hosted by the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM), in partnership with the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation, which offers monthly fishing programs for kids, and California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The Youth Fishing Derby is part of PRM’s Parks Make Long Beach Strategic Plan and efforts to increase opportunities and remove any barriers for the youth to explore nature. It also encourages participation in recreation programs that can help Long Beach youth develop new skills and hobbies.
