Big changes are taking flight at Long Beach Airport (LGB) as it breaks ground on a $37 million project to enhance the passenger experience.

Long Beach is preparing to welcome visitors from around the world during the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the Passenger Concourse Enhancement Project will ensure LGB continues to deliver a modern, sustainable and stress-free travel experience.

Some of the project’s planned upgrades include:

  • Upgraded seating with electrical charging options
  • Mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades, including replacement of air-conditioning components and updated restrooms
  • Installing energy-efficient LED lighting and a new back-up generator as part of sustainability efforts
  • Brand-new open-air garden area outside of the north concourse
  • Updated flooring and a Service Animal Relief Area
  • Expanded flight information displays and directional signage
  • Mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades including restroom renovations

The estimated $37 million cost of the project is funded through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Infrastructure Grant and Airport revenue with no use of local tax dollars. Construction is expected to finish in the summer of 2027 with no impact to commercial flights.

The Passenger Concourse Enhancement Project adds another chapter to the airport's economic legacy — generating an estimated 190 construction jobs while the broader Long Beach Airport Complex continues to power roughly $9 billion in annual economic activity and support 42,000 jobs for the city and surrounding region.

With these modernized infrastructure improvements and its first-class service, LGB is sure to remain america’s coolest airport™.
