Lights, Camera, Long Beach: New Program Paves Path for Entertainment Careers

The City of Long Beach is rolling out the red carpet with a new, exciting program for residents to build a career within the City’s rapidly growing creative economy.
The Department of Economic Development and Opportunity (EDO) is launching the Long Beach Creative Corps Entertainment Production Assistant Program as an opportunity to prepare young adults who are interested in careers within the entertainment industry such as film, television, broadcast production, digital media and more.
This pilot program, in partnership with Codega Media, is designed to train a cohort of 10 participants ages 18 to 24 through paid work-based learning, production assistant training and career coaching. Training will take place in-person on Wednesday, Sept. 23 and Thursday, Sept. 24 at the LBWIN Youth Career Services Center (508 W. Willow St.). After training, participants may be connected to paid work experience with entertainment employers, production companies, venues and more throughout Southern California.
Applications are available online now through Friday, Sept. 4. A virtual information session for interested applicants will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 4 to 5 p.m. The program prioritizes applicants who may face barriers to education or employment such as those who have experienced housing instability, foster care, justice involvement, disabilities, low-income circumstances or other related challenges.
The Creative Corps Program will also introduce young adults to career paths for skilled production roles such as stagehand, live event production technician, and streaming/live broadcast support, among others.
With the opening of the new F&M Bank Amphitheater of Long Beach and continued investment in the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center, this program supports Mayor Rex Richardson’s goal of making Long Beach a premier entertainment destination.
