This August, Long Beach is giving local teens the chance to unplug and trade city nights for an immersive, educational weekend under the stars. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) is giving teens ages 13 to 17 the opportunity to gain valuable leadership skills through a three-day, two-night training camp at Castaic Lake. The California State Parks Outdoor Youth Connection Camp will take place Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9 and is free.

This year, PRM’s Teen Center is teaming up with several organizations across California to introduce participants to State Parks while building strong communication skills, community engagement and self-confidence. Upon return from camp, Long Beach teens will engage in a community service project and continue their outdoor connection by organizing an open-air recreational activity.

Applications for Youth Connection Camp are open at all PRM Teen Center locations on weekdays from noon to 6 p.m., until Wednesday, July 22. Space is limited to 90 teens and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parents of teens interested in joining the Outdoor Youth Connection Camp are encouraged to attend the final information session before the application deadline:

  • Saturday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at the Cal Rec Community Center at McBride Park (1550 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.)

Can’t make it to Youth Connection Camp? Don’t sweat it — PRM hosts a variety of recreational programs and volunteer activities year-round for Long Beach teens across their six Teen Center locations throughout the City. Visit LBParks.org to view the full range of PRM’s available services so you never miss out on the fun!
