The City of Long Beach is expanding open gym hours at its four public gymnasiums, making it easier for residents to get active.

Starting Monday, March 23, open gym hours will shift from Monday through Thursday evenings to a new schedule:

  • Monday–Thursday: 4 to 6 p.m.
  • Friday: 4 to 8 p.m.

Open gym time is free and open to the community, offering space for self-led activities like basketball, volleyball and casual recreation. The updated schedule keeps the same 12 total weekly hours while introducing Friday access for added flexibility.

Alongside the schedule update, the City is also bringing its Adult Basketball and Volleyball Leagues fully into City-operated gymnasiums. Beginning March 23, league play will take place Monday through Thursday starting at 6 p.m., immediately following open gym hours.

As part of the transition, some indoor practices for Youth Sports Leagues will move outdoors — a format already used at many park locations across the city.

The updated schedule will apply to the following City gym locations:

  • McBride Park Gymnasium
  • Cesar Chavez Elementary School Gymnasium
  • Pan American Park Gymnasium
  • Silverado Park Gymnasium

Participants with questions about Adult or Youth Sports League schedules can contact YouthSports@longbeach.gov.
