Bixby Park, one of Long Beach’s most historic and beloved public spaces, is striking the right chord with recently completed improvements.
The revitalization centers around the park’s iconic bandshell, a structure that has stood as a cultural touchstone in the City for generations. Built in the early 20th century, the bandshell has played host to a speech by then presidential candidate Herbert Hoover, Iowa State Society Picnics, community musical and theatrical performances, and much more.

The upgrades maintain the venue’s historic charm while making it more functional for modern gatherings. It’s been revitalized with a new stage and structural enhancements aimed at extending its useful life.
Beyond the bandshell, the City’s renovation project brought a wide range of updates to the surrounding park, with a focus on safety, accessibility and community enjoyment.
New paving around the bandshell area provides smoother and safer walkways, while ADA-compliant picnic tables and improved restroom access ensure that more residents can enjoy the space comfortably.
Visitors to the dog park will also notice a fresh look, with upgraded fencing, four new benches and a hydration station. A security camera has been installed to enhance safety for park-goers and their furry companions.
Lighting throughout the park has been upgraded as well, improving visibility during evening hours.
These enhancements are part of the City’s broader Elevate ’28 initiative—a five-year infrastructure plan. Completion of the Bixby Park project marks a meaningful reinvestment in a space that is poised to remain a vibrant centerpiece of the community for years to come.
